Rochdale Writers are finally set up in the new Rochdale Central Library at Number One Riverside. despite it being Ramadan, Kiran and Nisa came to the first meeting at N1R. Inspired by the light installation by Pete King in the children's library they wrote this poem with Ray.
Spiral dancing to a world of skybooks
Reaching the limits of our imagination
Blue and white
Dipping into the river
Helping us begin our journey
Brightening our lives
Like the colours of an
Iridescent kingfisher
There's more to come

About time we had an update!
Well, we've been so busy this year we've had no time to tell the world about our exploits. Most of us are also on the Children's Coucil in Rochdale so that keeps us busy.
Tonight we are writing poems about stars for a competition run by Rochdale Libraries, the winner will get a prize of a telescope. Stars can be interpreted any way we like and we thing our family members are our stars.
We could choose Mum or Dad, our brothers or our sisters but we are all too modest to choose ourselves as the star - although Mr. Ray Stearn Sir says we are all stars!
We have been with the group for quite a few years now and are really keen on calling the group Rochdale Writers - but can we change the blog name or will we have to start a new one? we may have to ask an expert, luckily several work for the library service here or in other parts of the council so we know where to go for the information we need.
We are looking forward to the opening of One Riverside in Rochdale - it will house a brand new library. I wonder if there will be a ceremony and a ribbon to cut. We would love to be asked to cut it - after all, we are stars!

Next get together
We hope to meet again on the 17th September 10-12 at the newly branded Rochdale Central Library, you may well remember it as The Wheatsheaf Library.
National Poetry Day is on Thursday 6th October and the theme is "Games." We hope to write lots of Kennings and Etherees on that day and add them to this blog.
If you want to find out what a Kenning or an Etheree is - you will just have to join us on the day!

circus stars
circus stars are very special when they do their circus tricks
they can do the tight-rope walk which I think is very special
and juggling which is very clever when done with mysterious sticks
circus stars are also very special when they do a tumbling trick
they can fly through the air and never fall down
the strong man lifts the weights up very quick
and thats why I think circus stars are very special
